Ballaine Vet Clinic
I am looking for a full time vet for at least mid-April to mid-October 2019 and likely longer. There will be some opportunity for vacation time in the summer. I am looking to retire in 2-3 years so there is an option for buying the practice. I have a 1 person practice that is split roughly 50/50 large/small animal. Equine works predominates the large animal work so good equine skills are essential. The rest of the large animal is a mix of cows, goats, sheep, pigs, and a variety of other ruminants. Most of the large animal work is April to October with little activity in the winter. Normal office hours are 9-12 and 3-6 M-F. The 12-3 slot is generally reserved for personal time. A trail system runs through the property that is groomed as a cross country ski trail in the winter and is used for running/biking in the summer. From November to April you can step out the door and have access to over 20 miles of ski trails. Over the years I have averaged 150 days of skiing a year. It also allows drop-ins and acute cases to be handled on a daily basis and still have some free time. It is extremely rare that I do not have 2 hours off mid-day. Clients are booked on 30 minute blocks so there is generally time to complete all records. The clinic is completely non-computerized and all records are paper. I have one assistant who works as receptionist, bookkeeper, and tech. There are no regular weekend hours, though I do see patients on weekends on an emergency basis if I am around the clinic. I do not have a cell phone, all calls come into the clinic answering machine when I am not there. There are 2 housing options available on the property. There is an apartment attached to the clinic for winter or summer use and a cabin that is typically used for the summer. This is not a mentoring position, I will be out of Fairbanks and without any contact options when I am gone. My plans for the summer have some flex to them at this point so some time off in the summer can be arranged. Ideally this would turn into a position where I would work 2-3 months yearly for the next 2 years and then would sell the practice to my associate. I am offering $3000/week which includes all emergency work. I will be in Fairbanks until January 7 then back on February 21. During that time I will have limited access to e-mail, but should be able to check every week. We leave for Australia on April 13 and return May 31. June is booked for river trips and July is pretty full as well. August and September have more flex. Call Cort Zachel at 907-479-3641. I do have relief work cobbled together for Jan/Feb but if someone is interested in working this time period please call me ASAP.
