The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks to fill a continuous career track (clinical track) Assistant Professor position in Small Animal Community Practice/Primary Care located in Pullman, WA. The successful applicant will join a dedicated team focused on clinical service and clinical teaching. The position is available immediately.
The Small Animal Community Practice service is currently staffed by 3 primary care clinicians, 3 licensed veterinary technicians, and a patient service coordinator. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) is the leading full-service hospital and referral center in the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest with over 20,000 patient visits per year.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will provide clinical service in the Community Practice service for the VTH, while educating senior veterinary students as they experience and participate in this required 2-week rotation. Clinical duties will include direct supervision of senior veterinary students seeing primary care cases, supervision of staff, intern training, coordination of the clinical and teaching service with other sections of the hospital, and occasional interactions with referring veterinarians. In addition, this position will share responsibilities of oversight of several teaching laboratories. There may be opportunities to participate in additional didactic teaching and scholarly activity. The successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively, work collegially, and collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must possess a DVM or equivalent degree by date of hire, have 5 years of experience in small animal general (or specialty) private, public, or academic practice, and be proficient in general, high quality, medicine, surgery and dentistry in a busy setting. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment and relevant ability to successfully advocate diversity and values of diversity.
Preferred qualifications include demonstrated experience in teaching professional DVM students. Certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners or completion of a small animal rotating internship are desired, but not required.
