Gardner Animal Hospital, located in Gardner, Kansas, is looking for a full-time Associate Veterinarian to join our team. We are looking to grow our team, because our medical director, Dr. Eileen Mertz, will be establishing a Cancer Center at our practice that will offer medical and surgical oncologic services to the Kansas City area.

About our clinic: Gardner Animal Hospital is a full-service small animal hospital offering the best in medical and surgical care. Our diagnostic equipment includes a comprehensive in-house IDEXX laboratory, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, and ultrasound (brand new!). Both of our doctors are trained to do diagnostic ultrasounds and our associate, Dr. Hunter Like, is also trained to do echocardiograms. Our exam rooms contain computers, making it easy to review radiographs with clients. We use Cornerstone for our electronic medical records. Our hospital contains an isolation ward with a hood that creates a negative pressure enclosure, which allows for proper handling and safety of chemotherapy drugs. We also offer boarding, grooming, daycare, and dog training services. Most importantly, we have an amazing support staff and each doctor is supported with 1 technician and 1-2 assistants.

At Gardner Animal Hospital, we perform a large variety of routine and advanced soft tissue surgeries, orthopedic surgeries, and dentistry. Our surgery suite contains a heated surgical table, a hydraulic mobile table, suction, electrocautery, two anesthesia machines, orthopedic equipment, and Cardell monitoring equipment. Dr. Mertz has a passion for soft tissue and orthopedic surgery! She frequently performs TTAs, MPLs, FHOs, and fracture repairs. Our dental equipment includes a Midmark VetPro with high and low speed handpieces and dental radiography. Dr. Mertz is also experienced in performing root canals and fillings, although this is not done very often. Cold laser is frequently used post-operatively.

We have worked hard to build and maintain a positive, fun work environment, while providing exceptional care and customer service.  Laughing and joking is highly encouraged! Our practice is open Monday and Friday, 7 am to 5:30 pm, Tuesday – Thursday, 7 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, 8 am to 1 pm. Our doctors see appointments from 8:30 am to close, with a two-hour break from 12 pm to 2 pm. Our appointments are 30 minutes for wellness and routine cases and longer for cases requiring more extensive workups. We can be flexible with scheduling, but the schedule would ideally be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and every other Saturday. Ideal qualifications:

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience
• Interest and experience in surgery, dentistry, and medicine
• Kansas Veterinary License – active and in good standing
