Come join our Awesome Herd of Veterinary Professionals at Red Star Veterinary Clinic…Our friendly team-oriented mixed animal (Equine) veterinary practice focuses on quality veterinary medicine and compassionate care. We are presently a four doctor ambulatory and haul-in clinic practice in Ohio where you truly get to enjoy all four seasons and the friendly midwestern culture. Our established practice is stable and still growing!
Family Friendly Culture and Values: We value a culture of belonging and teamwork! The 4 day work week encourages family and personal time outside of work.
Respectable and Realistic Relationships with Clients: We emphasize a 2-way street relationship built on the values of respect and trust with our clients. Boundaries are present and your professional time as veterinarian is valued and compensated appropriately.
Physical Health Support: We all know working with animals especially horses is physically demanding. Your safety is made a priority by utilizing a technician during ambulatory calls and clinic appointments, encouraging sedation and regional blocks when appropriate, having the ability to say “no” when you feel your safety is in jeopardy, and a clinic that follows written safety protocols.
Mental Health Support: Let’s face it…the global pandemic of Covid has affected the mental wellbeing of many veterinary teams and our clients. This year we added on a personal wellness life coach on staff as an additional benefit to all of our team. The wellness life coach is a resource to use to talk to about personal concerns if desired, learn new skills to help with stress management, conflict resolution, anxiety reduction, and develop improved life skills on how to communicate with clients in difficult situations.

Fair Emergency Coverage Schedule and Additional Emergency Compensation: We all know horses and small ruminants get sick at all times of the day…To help follow our goals of valuing your personal time and work-life balance we only service our routine current large animal clients and share after-hour call amongst our team of veterinarians. The emergency fee goes 100% to the on-call veterinarian. The small animal clients are referred to the multiple local emergency clinics after hours.
Mentorship Plan and Team Support with Cases: The staff team all play a vital role daily and we value each and every one of them. It is important for all staff to continually grow both professionally and personally. Some of the perks our team of doctors enjoy include: weekly doctor case discussions over breakfast, clean & peaceful doctor office space to allow for quiet time to write up charts, review diagnostics, and communicate with clients (the view is great!), a team of multiple top-notch Registered Veterinary Technicians to work alongside, and so much more! The mentorship program is tailored to the individual veterinarian with the goals to support career growth and confidence. Our veterinary team each have unique skill sets and knowledge bases in different species… we love to collaborate with, learn from, and support each other.
Unique Patient Variety: The large animal case load is predominately equine with patients being approximately 70% equine, 25% pet sheep/goat and 5% camelids/cows. Equine patients are a mix of recreational trail horses, Western show and performance horses, English sport horses, and backyard pets with most breeds represented (miniature horses to quarter horses to gypsy vanner to percherons!) The large animal practice is mainly ambulatory but approximately 20% of the patients are seen as haul-in cases. The small animal patients are mostly dogs and cats, with the occasional pocket pet and backyard chicken as well. Yes, there is variety and we make sure you are fully equipped to see a different species. We will help you learn!
Career Growth and Continuing Education Plan: Our veterinarians are encouraged to learn new skill sets and knowledge. Paid CE and travel is provided. As a clinic, every 6 months we set aside time for our team of veterinarians to participate in a new skill workshop at the clinic where we learn a new technique and bond as a veterinary team.
Community Centered: Our goal is to make our clients an integral part of our health care team through client communication, client educational events such as horse owner meetings, and preventative health care plans. The clinic is very active in the community and participates in numerous community events such as the 5K Police Canine Run/Walk Annual Fundraiser, Kids Vet Camp and Live Nativity held at the clinic.
Compassionate Care with Financially Responsible Practices: We understand that there will be cases with severe financial restrictions and it can just be difficult to sort through the emotions and money. We pride ourselves as a clinic for having less than $2,000 uncollected accounts receivable for the last 5 years. Yes, you read that correctly! We feel it is important for clients to pay their bills promptly and fully so we can continue to take care of our team members. To help with that “special” financially restricted case(s), each veterinarian is awarded annually a $1,000 “Good Sam” fund to use at their discretion on these cases.
Your “Vet Tool Box” is fully stocked We want you to have lots of tools at your disposal to help your patients; such tools includeshockwave, cold lasers, digital x-ray, ultrasound, power dental equipment, thermography cameras, endoscope, gastroscope, in-house CBC and chemistry analyzers, in-house laboratory, cloudbased software you can access from your phone or laptop at all times, and so much more. If you aren’t sure how to use any of the equipment – we’d love to teach you! One of our veterinarians is certified in acupuncture and chiropractic care; and is available to consult with on cases.
