The ASPCA Veterinary Forensic Science Center (AVFSC) in Gainesville, Florida, is the nation’s first and only multidisciplinary forensic laboratory in the US dedicated to animal cruelty casework involving companion and other domestic animals. We are pleased to offer a 2-4 week externship opportunity at our state-of-the-art facility for veterinary students in their 3rd or 4th year.

 

Mentorship

Our diverse team composed of 4 forensic veterinarians, 2 crime scene analysists, and 1 forensic veterinary technician will empower you to prevent and respond to animal cruelty within your community.

 

Real-World Applications

Students will be actively involved in casework, including necropsies, case discussions, and will complete a mock case from report to testimony.

 

Deployment 

In addition to individual cases of suspected animal cruelty, we assist with large-scale cases nationwide. Depending on our schedule, students may have the opportunity to deploy with us; however, this is not guaranteed.
